The test piece is placed in the fixture of MARTINDALE wear-resisting testing machine.The constant pressure causes it to conduct friction on the sample according to the operation trajectory of LISSJOUS diagram. After a certain number of times of friction, the wear-resisting performance of the test material is evaluated by measuring the degree of wear of the sample.

Test Principle

Description of a method to assess the surface resistance to micro scratching and relates to rigid surfaces of all finished products regardless of materials. The test method can be used for all types of surface coatings and coverings except for lacquers with pearly or metallic effects. It does not apply to finishes on leather and fabrics. The test is intended to be carried out on a part of finished furniture, but can be carried out on test panels of the same material, finished in ar identical manner to the finished product, and of a size sufficient to meet the requirements of the test. The test shall be carried out on unused surfaces.

Assessment

The assessment shall be performed in evenly diffused artificial daylight giving an illumination on the test surface of 1200 ±400 lux.

Carefully examine the test area for scratches using the numerical rating scheme below. For this purpose illuminate the surface separately using the diffuse light source and examine from different angles, including angle combinations such that the light is reflected from the test surface and towards the observer’s eye. Viewing distance shall be 0.25 m to 0.5 m.
